I like road trips

And our pooch does too.

Where in the World?

Sorry about being AWOL - it's been an absolutely crazy month, what with ending my locum assignment, moving out of the hotel, moving out of our HOUSE, putting all of our crap (6 years' worth of being together) in storage...oh and this crazy little matter of moving to Hawaii for a few months!

That's right. If you haven't heard by now, I've moved to Hawaii. Hawai'i. Hawai`i. I found a longer-term assignment here and jumped at the chance - I'd had a few misses earlier in the summer and I guess I just couldn't let it go. I wasn't sure until the very end that I'd even gotten the damn job, but they flew me out to Honolulu so I took that as a good sign!

I've been here for about 3 weeks now, if you can believe it. I still really can't. Work is work - it will always be work - but it's work in HAWAI`I. I have been driving to the office with a stupid, silly, shit-eating grin pretty much every day so far, in awe of my good fortune to be here and having the craziest views while getting there. There have been a lot of huge, philosophy-shattering cultural differences that I've noticed...which is interesting, eye-opening. There are also a lot of similarities to home, which I find jarring and annoying. But I take the bad with the good and I will take it all, being here!

So expect a lot of travelogue-blog-type posts for a little bit. I'm enjoying my time in Paradise but have Real Life matters to deal with, as well, so I'm sure those will get sprinkled in periodically...

Jam on It

Random thoughts of a crazed packer...I've been sucking down too much cardboard fumes...but heard this on one of my random drives about town (my bank called me today because they couldn't believe I've bought so much shit in the last 3 days)

Aiiiiyyyyyyyiiiiiiii

Good news: We have renters for the house
Bad news: We have to be out by the 30th.

Oh hellz naw, I am going to crap myself. I've been pretty nonstop with starting to pack up the house, ship some stuff off to Salvation Army, return some items on our wedding registry. Yeah, so what if we were married almost 3 years ago? BB&B and C&B took our stuff back and it's better than shlepping that stuff around all over the country ::shrug::

Here's a tip for any brides-to-be who may stumble upon my blog: Bed Bath and Beyond is the.best.conventional.wedding.registry.site.ever. They will honor returns up to two years after your wedding, AND provide the option of giving you cash back (I had heard some grumblings on the knot or nest about this not being so, but I asked the manager today and she said it was still effective). Since I was past the time limit, I had to take store credit. That's a lot of hangers and dryer balls, yo!

There's been a lot more stuff going on, as well. I finished my temp assignment and *think* I am approved for another one - I say think because, well, none of the admins will tell me definitively! It's maddening. We have to be out of the house anyway...if I for whatever reason don't get the job, I am just going to say screw it and head out there* on Sunday, eff 'em...

*TBA when I know for sure!!

I learned something new and somewhat gross tonight
